I understand that the coal ash pond at Barry Steam Plant has been leaking toxic metals into the groundwater for years, continuing up to today. Alabama Power’s plan to “cap in place” means the ash pond will continue to pollute the groundwater and river forever.
I am asking Alabama Power to remove the ash from this site and relocate it to an upland, lined landfill capped with an impermeable covering thus preventing any further environmental damage from this toxic material.
